Philip J. McGaughey Sr., of 7045 East State Street, Hermitage, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 1:30 a.m. in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System, after becoming ill at home. He was 76.. He was born in Spangler, PA on May 18, 1936, the son of the late John Leslie and Mary Catherine "Rachel" (Powell) McGaughey. He had worked as a crane operator at the former Sawhill Tubular (now AK Steel) Sharon., for almost 40 years retiring in 1996.. Philip was a life member of the Sharon Carpo-Russian Club, and was Vice-President of the Sawhill Retirees Association. He was a hunter and fisherman and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed traveling, trips to casinos, and spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play sports. He was of Catholic faith. He is survived by his wife , Mary Marie (Miller) McGaughey, whom he married on Sept. 8, 1956. She survives at home. Also surviving are his four children, Philip J. McGaughey Jr. and his wife, Trisha, of Damascus, MD, Peggy Dudzenski and her husband, Mike,of Latrobe, PA. Bill McGaughey and his wife, Katrine, of Burnside, PA, and Jackie Kovach and her husband, Les, of Mercer,PA , his sisters, Mary June Mottorn of Rochester Mills, PA., Evelyn Jones and her husband, Donald, of Evansburg, PA., Martha Ann Stahl and her husband, Raymond, of Lewisville, TX., Kathy McCown and her husband, Ken, of SanAntonio, FL. and his brother, John L. McGaughey of Mercer, PA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by two sisters, Rita Alexander and Ruth Leavens.
